The Ten Commandments Starring Charlton Heston

Last Saturday, the children were down at their grandparent's house and my husband was out of the house working, and I found myself home alone. This is very unusual for me. A quiet house doesn't often happen for me, so I savored the favor. It's a rare treat when I can actually watch television without any interruptions.

So, as I relaxed by lying in bed with a bag of microwave popcorn and a bottle of Poland Spring, I clicked through the hundreds of channels that Optimum Cablevision provides. I came across The Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments is one of my all time favorite biblical movies. I also love Jesus of Nazareth. And, generally, whenever either is on television, I make it a point to watch it.

Unfortunately, I didn't catch it from the beginning. In fact, I missed the entire first hour of it. When I turned to it, Moses had already left Egypt and accepted his birthright as being Hebrew and had been banded from Egypt.

The reason I bring up this movie is because I think it is the perfect movie to show how having complete faith in God can work miracles in your life.

At the time I turned on the movie, Moses was just selecting his wife and apparently during the commercial a lot of time had went by because he now had a 7 year old son. Where Moses and his family lived, there was a mountain that was believed that God lived upon this mountain.

Moses made the decision to climb the mountain and came face to face with the burning bush. When he came back down out of the mountain, the first thing Moses said was that he discovered God talks to us through our mind.

That's an important statement. It is through the mind that we are connected to God and to each other.

Then, immediately after coming off of the mountain, Moses went to Egypt. Why? Because God instructed him to go there.

Moses didn't take time to think about it. He didn't say, well, I can't leave now, I already have some plans that I have to take care of. I can't leave now, if I do, I might lose my pension. If I leave now, I may not be able to come back and pick up from where I left off. If I leave now blah, blah, blah. Fill in the blanks with whatever excuses you use for not following God's instructions for your life.

Moses didn't come up with any excuses. He was clear on the fact that he was to return to Egypt and so he did. Immediately.

This is important. When God gives you an idea, you must act on it immediately. There are no excuses that should delay you.

Now, when God first told Moses that he was to go to Egypt, talk with Pharaoh and tell him to "let my people go." Moses questioned God. He said, 'God, I don't think I am the person who is best qualified to do this. First of all, I am banned from Egypt. Secondly, how can I be a spokesperson for the Jews when I have a speech impediment? Perhaps you have the wrong guy for the job.'

See, Moses was being Moses about it. He came up with an argument about how he wasn't qualified for the job. Isn't this exactly what we do all the time? We think about what our purpose may be, and then we come up with every excuse in the world as to how we are not qualified to do it. I can't possibly be a world famous motivational speaker. I can't even speak that well. I can't possibly help others learn about their finances, my finances are a mess. Who am I to do this? I don't think I can.

Well, when God gives you an assignment, he doesn't simply give it to you and then leaves you alone. No, He goes with you.

God told Moses, 'don't worry about it. When the time comes, you will know exactly what to say. If it makes you feel any better, bring your brother with you. Let him do the talking.'

Great advice! If you feel you aren't good at something, find someone who is, and bring them along with you.

God is not going to give you an assignment that you can't handle. He is not going to leave you high and dry. He will be with you. He will make all the circumstances work in your favor-so long as you have the faith that He will.

Moses had faith.

Moses had incredible faith.

When I think of the scene when Pharaoh freed the Jews and then changed his mind again and went after them, the Jews were between a rock and a hard place-literally. On one side, there was Pharaoh and his chariots and army, and on the other side was a body of water. If they went in the water, they drowned. If the retreated to where they came from, they would be killed by Pharaoh's army.

Now the people had no faith and started blaming Moses. "Why did you free us from slavery? Was it to get us killed out here in the wilderness?"

But Moses never lost faith. Moses said, 'I know that God didn't lead us this far to have us die out here in the wilderness.'

Now, Moses had no idea what to do but he knew that God had a plan. So, Moses, having the faith that he had, carrying his shaft, opened his arms and the water started to part.

Now that is what I call FAITH.

You must develop the same faith.

You must believe that God has the answers even if you don't.

You must have the faith that God has not brought you this far to let you die or suffer on your own. He is with you at all times.

Develop the faith of Moses and watch miracles appear in your life.
