Ultrasound Machines to Prevent Testicular Cancer

Testicular ultrasound machines have become very reliable and useful equipment for men, since these can quickly find masses and other possibilities that can lead to testicular cancer. It is vital that you know how to identify normal testicles from abnormal ones to stay safe. Early detection of underlying problems have a very good prognosis, so make it a habit to undergo ultrasound once you notice the slightest differences.

Normal and Abnormal

Normal testicular ultrasound machine results will show the testicles retaining normal size and shape. The position is also normal, with no signs of cancerous or non-cancerous lumps. There should be no inflammation or infection of the testicles or epididymis. The spermatic cord should adequately supply blood to the testicles, with no twisting or excessive stretching. There should be no sign of fluid in the scrotum and epididymis or blood or pus in the scrotum

An abnormal result will reveal a lump present inside the testicle and signs of recurrent testicular cancer. The spermatic cord may also be twisted, cutting off adequate blood flow to the testicles. Epididymitis or inflammation and infection of the testicles are another abnormal finding. Abnormal results will also be provided if there is only one or no testicle present in the scrotum. The presence of blood, pus or hernia in the scrotum is considered abnormal, together with the presence of fluid in the scrotum or epididymis.

Possible Test Alterations

It is vital that the patient stay still throughout the procedure. If the patient has a wound or open sore in the area that needs to be examined, the test may be postponed or results may be compromised or inaccurate. In most cases, testicular ultrasound is done to check pain or mass developing in the testicles. The procedure aims to ensure that the patient is free of cancer.

The ultrasound will help doctors determine if the mass is fluid-filled, solid or a mass of another sort. A cyst is usually described as a fluid-filled mass, having symmetrical shape without any particles floating inside. Masses that do not have fluid, or masses that have fluid with floating particles or atypical cysts will need to be evaluated further. Follow-up ultrasound may be done in another 6 to 8 weeks to give time for the mass to be eliminated. A biopsy may be required if an atypical cyst or solid lump is present.

Ultrasound Machine Guidelines

Ensure that the professional or physician handling the ultrasound machine is competent enough and knows how to evaluate and interpret data. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. There are no special preparations needed before the test so you can eat, urinate or come with a full bladder. Relax and take a deep breath as the probe is moving over your scrotum. You should not feel any pain unless the area to be examined is tender. The whole process should be over in 20 minutes average.

Certain procedures may be done that requires ultrasound at the same time, such as needle biopsies to ensure that the needle securely reaches the target area and acquires the necessary tissues for examination. Biopsies will give you a slight pinch or discomfort. This is still a safe procedure, so you should worry about nothing. Report unusualities such as too much blood in your urine or persistent pain in the testicles.
