Developments In CNC Woodworking Machines

Computer-Numerical Controlled (CNC) woodworking machines have been a major development in the field of manufacturing. These machines are controlled and operated by a computer and a software. There are different kinds of CNC woodworking machinery based on the scope of the manufacturing process it could cover, its size and its function.

Generally speaking, computerized systems would cost about thousands of dollars, especially those who are intended for large industrial operations. There are small scale CNC machines, do-it-yourself kits and portable machine which are available for much lower price.

Nowadays, it is no longer just the big and industrial companies who are using CNC technology. Even novices, craftsmen, and hobbyists are using CNC machinery. According to managers of machining centers, it is no longer just large manufacturers who are buying CNC equipments. Shops who have two to four people would also purchase CNC machines to help in their production.

Craftsmen have realized that by using simple CNC equipments, they are able to produce more of their crafts, with high quality, therefore, increasing their sales. With CNC, production could be accomplished faster. Thus, craftsmen get to spend more time in thinking and designing new crafts and being more creative.

Since, the wood work designs are controlled by a computer software/program, it could be changed to suit manufacturer and customer demands without spending too much effort. They could even develop designs which the competition may find difficult to replicate.

Automation also reduces the risk of human error and the time spent in correcting such errors. CNC machine allows the operator and manufacturer to see a printed image of how the processed wood work would look like. The CNC operator can check the designs or make necessary adjustments before running the machine, this would help them avoid possible errors.

Intricate and delicate designs would no longer entail too much labor, it would be replicated easily, with accuracy and precision using the CNC routers and machines. In a sense, it makes things easier for workers, manufacturers and ensure customers of quality and consistent products. CNC equipments are not just for woodworking only, there are other CNC machines which can be used for aluminium and metalworking.

In general, it is no longer a question of adding a CNC equipment or not. Woodworkers and manufacturers already know its importance and benefits. Rather, it has become what functions a CNC equipment must possess. Wood workers and customers are looking for CNC machines that has greater speed, enhanced tool changing, more flexible, higher value and can combine several functions.

In fact, customers are looking for CNC machines that are more complex, since they would be able to perform more functions. For example, CNC routers should be able to do both vertical and horizontal drilling and could cut.

Will there still be changes or development?

Definitely, yes. With technology continuing to progress, there is much advancement on computer knowledge. CNC machines are continuously being developed to accommodate both manufacturer and customer demands. Shifting from manual to mechanized manufacturing through CNC woodworking machines, showed that manufacturers were able to profit from the changes and at the same time, meet customer expectations.
